Transforming Visibility for a Legacy Nonprofit

(Building The Marketing Infrastructure behind Sustainable Fundraising)

Client: North Shore Holiday House, Long Island - NY Time: August  2018 — January 2021

North Shore Holiday House in Huntington, New York, is a charitable organization that provides a tuition-free sleep-away summer camp experience for underserved girls ages 7 to 11. Since 1914, the organization has enriched the lives of young girls by providing a safe, nurturing environment that fosters independence, confidence, and connection through arts, sports, and nature-based programs.

To provide summer camp for more than 200 girls each year and maintain the property and operations, the organization must raise over $500,000 annually. As a long-standing organization with meaningful impact, its visibility, communications, and outreach had not fully evolved to reflect the opportunities available today.

Situation

The initial request was to curate the annual newsletter. However, this quickly revealed a broader issue. Communications were fragmented, messaging was inconsistent, and there was no underlying structure to support ongoing marketing, outreach, or fundraising efforts.

Without a cohesive system in place, the organization struggled to clearly present its impact, maintain consistent visibility, and build sustained engagement with donors, supporters, and the local community.

Challenge

  • Brand and Communications Foundation
Established a clear and consistent messaging framework to better articulate the organization’s mission, impact, and value across all channels.

  • Strategic Marketing Infrastructure
Developed a structured marketing and communications system to support ongoing outreach, campaign execution, and long-term growth.
Created a centralized digital library with more than 2,500 assets, including photos, campaign materials, and branded content.

  • Website and Accessibility
Led the development of an updated website with improved structure and usability.
Introduced Spanish translations for program pages and implemented a bilingual application process to better serve the local community.

  • Digital Presence
Launched a LinkedIn presence and implemented a structured social media strategy.
Established a content calendar and engagement approach to increase consistency and reach.

  • Public Relations
Introduced public relations as a new visibility channel.
Built relationships with local publishers and secured consistent media coverage, including feature articles and full-page placements in regional publications.

  • Fundraising Campaigns
Developed and executed integrated fundraising campaigns supported by consistent messaging, strong visuals, and coordinated outreach.

Strategy

Consistent Fundraising Performance

  • A strategically aligned approach to messaging and engagement, developed over the course of 2.5 years, strengthened how the organization connects with its local community, builds strategic partnerships, and stewards donor relationships.

  • A series of diverse and compelling fundraising campaigns helped repeatedly exceed the annual fundraising goal of $500,000.

Expanded Digital Presence

  • An updated, bilingual website and application process made the program more accessible, allowing underserved families, particularly those from Spanish-speaking communities, to fully understand and engage with the organization.

  • A new LinkedIn account and a structured social media calendar expanded reach beyond the immediate local community, helping connect with a broader corporate audience.

First-time Media Exposure

  • A growing network of local publishers, combined with a targeted media strategy, secured multiple articles and full-page features in local and regional publications, increasing visibility within the community.

Strategic Marketing Infrastructure

  • An integrated marketing and communications plan ensured consistent messaging and coordinated outreach across campaigns and channels.

  • A strategic infrastructure, including a digital library of more than 2,500 files and a full suite of promotional materials, provided immediate access to assets to support efficient execution and ongoing communication.

Significant Increase in Brand Awareness

  • A streamlined visual identity and cohesive brand presence across all public touchpoints positioned the organization to stand out more clearly in a crowded nonprofit landscape.

  • A structured social media approach, supported by regular content and active management, drove ongoing audience growth, including a 467% increase in Instagram engagement.
